“Looking for the perfect beach?
Pandanon Island is the place to go. White sand and warm turquoise waters await the visitor for a day of fun in the sun.”
Google Pandanon Island and you’ll be greeted with more than five hundred search results. I found the ‘quote’ above in one of them. Ask a fellow Boholano where Pandanon Island is and you’ll most likely get a shrug. Meanwhile, other literatures list this beach as Pandanon Island, Cebu, Philippines.
It must be that the island is only a few miles from Mactan Island and its throng of beach resorts and may, in fact, be more accessible from Cebu than Jetafe, Bohol, the island’s mother town. And that guests of these resorts are mostly brought to the island via motorized outriggers for day tours and stops from dive safaris, as part of their vacation packages.
But, this Pandanon Island as described with its sandy beaches is not actually the Pandanon Island, but a one-hectare-or-so sandbar that gracefully stretches from the island proper of Pandanon, like a whipped cream whisked into the blue green seas.
.
At the other end of the frosting of a sandy beach is the Pandanon Island, an island barangay of Jetafe town.
The sandbar end, meanwhile, that is now the Pandanon Island Paradise, is managed privately by a Cebuano businessman. The Pandanon barangay folks are free to cross this end, but only at certain times of the day, or when there are no guests around.
Vistors to the island resort are then treated to a near private and seclued island get-away, with the amenities mostly island rustic and natural.
The charm of Pandanon is not only reflected in its white sand beach and azure waters, but, on the recently added, small, quaint white-washed chael that is almost the centerpiece of this island paradise: an invitation to a quite mediation between creation and Creator. That, or a powerful lure for couples to get married, right then and there, Vegas-style.
The bevy of blog posts by previous island visitors on their Pandanon experience is testament to the curious attraction to this gem of an island/sandbar off Jetafe. I myself couldn’t help sharing my brief Pandanon experience, in the form of photos I posted in my online photo album.
Perhaps, Antonio Banderas and Kate Winslet just had to share their Pandanon sojourn, too, because word has it that they actually did had a brief stop at the small island just recently.
Even so, the charm of Pandanon island need no ’star factor’ for it has long been a star all by itself. Albeit, one that is neatly tucked away from most of us Boholanos.
Now, is that not reason enough to start planning for your next beach excursion?
Destination: Paradise, Pandanon.

At the other end of the sandy beach frosting is Pandanon, an island barangay of Jetafe with a population of about 1,947 (2000 Census). Pandanon lies at the southern end of the Danajon Double Barrier Reef - the only such reef in Asia, with the other two only in Austratlia and Nova Scotia.
How to get there?
Hi Gani. You get to Pandanon, either from Mactan, Cebu or Jetafe, Bohol.
When we went there, we took a boat ride from Jetafe pier. It was a long ride, almost an hour? I’m not sure, but I recall it was really far from Bohol mainland.
hala, 1,000 population? it’s increasing…blame it to the aphrodisiac seashells!!!!
Can I have details about staying in Pandanon Beach? I need help in getting answers on info below:
* If we will be in mactan, wer specifically to take a pump boat.
* Fare of the boat going there
* How much is there room rates per night?
* If possible, can I get the contact no. of the place..
Tina, unfortunately, i don’t have those details. If you could ask around in the Mactan beaches area, people should know, i suppose, reckoning that the place is owned by a pretty prominent Cebuano personages, the Ouanos.
The place seems very nice… is it not so expensive for tight budget adventurers? hehehe…
If you are in Cebu, you can ride in Pasil Pier, There is a boat there that send supplies from the Island and it is cheap just 50 pesos 1 way. If i am not mistaken it is owned by a barangay official named Edgar. It goes there everyday usually around 10 am to bring daily goods and to resupply also. Pandanon or Ouano Beach is the most famous one there, it is located at tip of the island It is just a small part of the island but with white beaches. They have entrance of 100 pesos each. If you want to stay overnight you can rent the small cottages there but i don’t know for how much. If you want to do overnight you have to pay again entrance of 100. We end up paying 200 each + the rent of the cottage x 2 also. We were told that we should have been there around 1 pm so that we wouldn’t have to pay double. That place has no amenities, no lights no fresh water supply you have to use beach water incase you want to you know. Sure it looks nice but if you are not used to cowboy style living, better not go there or you will really feel miserable.
its beautiful
its is a very nice plce i like to go thre…….
Your description about the island paradise has changed by plan for a retirement haven. Instead of retiring in my hometown of Maribojoc, I want to retire there. Maybe run a diving lodge? Please inform me more about the islanders.
Mr. Ruaya, this paradise, I believe already has an owner, one of the Ouanos of Mandaue, Cebu, I’ve heard. Otherwise, you’ll have to settle at the Pandanon proper which is quite crowded as you can see in the photo.
Maribojoc is still very lovely and has lots of possibilities. You should give her a chance. The Abatan tourism project is in dire need of investors. And there’s that lovely lane of beach you have in your coasts, too. I think it’s been wanting of a diving resort around those areas.
any person/ number i can get in touch with to reserve cottages?
did you know that the reef in Pandanon Island composed of coral rubbles? the reef is in very bad shape, Pandanon island is home to a very distructive fishing activities that destroys coral reefs in the area. Blast fishing is very rampant in Pandanon Island. dispyte the beauty that u see in the pictures, its highly opposite to what you will see when youre there. all you will hear is rampant explosions from dynamite fishers.
